San Diego, California—Carmel Valley’s most coveted retail destination is expanding. Officials at Donahue Schriber Realty Group announced the next phase of Del Mar Highlands Town Center located at Del Mar Heights Road and El Camino Real in North San Diego’s, Carmel Valley. The project will encompass over 120,000 sq. ft. of prime, new retail space, bringing the center’s total to 380,522 sq. ft. upon completion. The newest phase is named The Collection at Del Mar Highlands Town Center. For starters, locally-based natural foods grocer, Jimbo’s…Naturally!, will open a new, state-of-the-art store allowing them to grow from 14,000 sq. ft. to 25,000 sq. ft. This is exciting news for many long time, loyal Jimbo’s shoppers. Additionally, the leasing strategy focuses on a wide-array of retail, dining, and services tailored to meet the needs of the area’s highly educated, affluent, time-constrained customer. The shopping center’s five-mile demographic report shows an average household income of $170,000; with 72% having completed a bachelor’s degree or higher. According to Experian, 39% of area households fall within America’s wealthiest demographic category, known as the Power Elite.
The Collection at Del Mar Highlands Town Center will consist of inviting spaces for customers to relax, dine, shop, workout, run errands, and meet with friends. The expansion is designed to complement the highly successful Del Mar Highlands Town Center that has the highest average sales per square foot in the trade area. “Today’s busy consumers demand offerings and amenities that allow them to get everything done in one convenient location. It’s much more than a shopping center expansion, this is about continuing to be the meeting place or as the name so adequately describes, the town center of the Carmel Valley community,” said Patrick Donahue, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Donahue Schriber Realty Group.
In October 2016, Del Mar Highlands Town Center opened a portion of its multi-level parking structure which brings its parking ratio to 6.0/1,000 upon completion. Del Mar Highlands Town Center is home to the #1 luxury 8-plex in the United States. This past winter, Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas expanded to an 11-plex. Donahue Schriber’s Vice President of Leasing and Acquisitions/Development, Chris Elliott stated, “I’m excited to announce that new leases have been signed with Bluemercury, an upscale cosmetics boutique and spa, Mendocino Farms, Papyrus, Grater Grilled Cheese, Pokewan, and Pappalecco. The development of The Collection at Del Mar Highlands Town Center will help meet the demand of the lifestyle and top-tier regional and local tenants that have been looking to expand into the Carmel Valley.”
